Roundwood House is a Country House offering B&B and dinner to guests in a delightful location at the foot of the unspoilt Slieve Bloom mountains, just one and a half hours from Dublin. Set amongst wooded, rambling gardens, the house and outbuildings are over three hundred years old and have immense character and charm. Guests come to relax, enjoy good food and wine, explore many local sites of interest and for genuine Irish hospitality in a homely atmosphere.

Our decision to open Roundwood for accommodation over 25 years ago was initially based on a desire to meet and interact with people and to fulfill a longstanding ambition to restore a house of great architectural merit. The approach we have taken to all aspects of the accommodation and dining has been guided by our own personal experiences and, together with our staff, we endeavour to create a special place where personal service comes naturally, life is taken at a more relaxed pace and good food, wine and conversation abound. Each of our ten bedrooms and three self-catering cottages have their own unique and interesting features, are filled with books and paintings and have beautiful views of the gardens. Evening meals are prepared with great care and imagination, using ingredients that are always fresh. Our philosophy has always been to provide an informal, Irish atmosphere, where it is possible to meet and enjoy the company of other guests. We hope that you will have the chance to discover the many charms of Roundwood House and its surroundings for yourself.

Frank and Rosemarie Kennan

Roundwood House has recently been taken over by Frank and Rosemarie's daughter, Hannah, and her husband Paddy, who don't seem bothered by the fact that Frank and Rosemarie are being sent to live in the barn. Assurances have been given by the new managment to retain the philosophy of the old and there will be no introduction of wide screen televisions or trouser presses, much to Frank and Rosemarie's relief. Frank and Rosemarie look forward to continuing to enjoy the company of all the guests they have got to know so well during their 26 years in Roundwood.

Roundwood House is a member of the Hidden Ireland, a unique collection of privately owned historic houses providing country house accommodation in Ireland.

"...This is the old school of Irish hospitality – understated, loquacious, arranged by people who have the time to talk to you and to take care of you. The result of their patient, gracious care is that everyone feels special when staying here, and many of the encomiums we have received over the years about this house have been amongst the most heartfelt and grateful..."

"...The perfect home from home..."

"...Roundwood's reputation for good food and wine is reliable and deserved...".

"...If you are looking for 24-hour, luxury service, perhaps you should book the Ritz Carlton (the one in Grand Cayman is particularly nice). If you want an authentic, lovely escape with real Irish hospitality in a real, unspoilt part of Ireland, Roundwood is your place..."

"It is hard to see how anyone could fail to love this unspoilt early Georgian house, which lies secluded in mature woods of lime, beech and chestnut, at the foot of the Slieve Bloom mountains - a sense of history and an appreciation of genuine hospitality are all that is needed to make the most of a stay here..."
"There's a dreamlike beauty to this place..."
