Family Celebrations

Roundwood House is first and foremost a family home, which makes it the perfect place to get away and celebrate with your family. Birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, or just “it’s been far too long”, have been some of the reasons family groups have come to Roundwood over the last year. With ten bedrooms (another two spare in the cottage and forge), a library, wet day nursery, drawing room, study, a large function room, outdoor play area for the kids, several lawns, gardens and acres of woodland, there’s plenty to do inside and out to keep the troops occupied.

While you’re here:

When you take over the house, the only rule we have is that you relax and enjoy your stay as if it were your own home. This rule is strictly enforced with penalties ranging from extra cups of tea in the afternoon, to joining in sing-songs in the evening. The best part about having exclusive use of the house is that you can use it any way you like. You can spend your time doing nothing (a popular option with some) or engaging in activities organized with us, or planned by yourselves. An afternoon of archery, walking in the Slieve Bloom with a walking guide (or self-guided), fishing in the Laois Angling Center, horse riding, an evening of music (with musicians available upon request, if you don’t have any with you)…..The list is too long to include everything comfortably in a sentence, without the use of far too many commas, and without creating a run-on sentence, which I can’t abide. So, here are some more ideas, in point form:

  • murder mystery nights
  • movie nights
  • croquet on the lawn
  • picnics in the woods
  • visiting Boora Sculpture Park
  • Birr Castle
  • Emo Court
  • Lutyen’s Gardens at Heywood
  • a glass of wine on the lawn (seasonal, optional)
  • a glass of wine by the fire (year round, mandatory)
